Spanish striker Rafa Mir, convicted at first instance to eight and a half years in prison for rape, assault and causing bodily harm, has been loaned by Sevilla FC to Greek club Aris Salonika whilst he awaits resolution of his appeal.

Spanish striker Rafa Mir, who in June received a first-instance sentence of eight and a half years imprisonment for the crimes of rape, assault and causing bodily harm, was loaned by Sevilla FC to Greek club Aris Salonika. The Andalusian club announced on Tuesday that the agreement includes a purchase option for the 29-year-old footballer, who has lodged an appeal against the sentence handed down by a Valencia court.
The events occurred on 1 September 2024 at the player's residence in Bétera, a municipality in the province of Valencia. That night, Rafa Mir and a friend met two women at a nightclub. He was arrested the following day, 2 September, following a complaint filed by both women, and spent two nights in police custody before being released. The athlete acknowledged having had sexual relations, but maintained they were consensual.
At that time, Valencia CF—his club at the moment—did not terminate his contract, but instead imposed a two-match ban and a financial fine on him. Mir trained at Valencia's youth academy and subsequently played for English club Wolverhampton Wanderers before going out on several loans. After signing with Sevilla FC, with whom he competed in European competitions, he also played on loan at Elche CF. In addition, he has represented Spain in youth categories.
