The man arrested on Thursday for the murder of two women in a Mijas (Málaga) home faces an additional investigation into robberies with intimidation committed at the same address. Sources close to the inquiry have confirmed that he is attributed with two homicides and an equal number of armed robberies, circumstances that fall within the context of gender-based violence.
Neither the victim, aged around 60, nor the young woman aged around 30, her daughter, appeared on the national register for monitoring women at risk. Nevertheless, the Ministry for Equality is gathering information on the incident, given that preliminary hypotheses point to a gender-motivated crime.
On Thursday afternoon, officers from the Armed Institute conducted a search of the suspect's house, located in the Málaga capital, in the presence of the arrested man himself. During the inspection, various objects linked to the facts were found, notably a knife that could have been used as the murder weapon.
The tragedy unfolded just after midnight on Wednesday, when the emergency coordination centre received a call about a fire in a property in the Las Lagunas neighbourhood. Firefighters, paramedics, municipal police and the Civil Guard were immediately mobilised.
Once the flames had been extinguished, rescue teams discovered the lifeless bodies of both women, showing signs of assault with a sharp instrument. This circumstance ruled out any accidental cause from the outset.
The Civil Guard took over direction of the investigation, which concluded with the identification and capture of the principal suspect. In the coming hours he will be brought before a judge to answer for the crimes attributed to him.
