The events date back to June. According to the investigation, the coach—of Bolivian nationality—invited the victim and another minor to eat at his home. When the second girl left, the man remained alone with the minor and took her to a bedroom, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. He subsequently allegedly asked her to remain silent about what had happened.
In the following weeks, the adolescent's change in attitude alerted those around her. Her aunt noticed that she barely spoke, had changed her routines and friendships, and appeared visibly affected, although at first she did not explain the reason.
At the end of July, the minor began to feel unwell and to suffer vomiting. On 8 August her aunt took her to Son Espases University Hospital, where a gynaecological examination confirmed the pregnancy. The adolescent subsequently terminated the pregnancy.
During this period, the coach allegedly attempted to contact her on repeated occasions via WhatsApp to arrange to meet her. The minor eventually blocked his number and, according to the newspaper Última Hora, the conversation was deleted.
The Family and Women's Attention Unit (UFAM) of the National Police assumed the investigation. Officers gathered information about the events until they located the suspect and arrested him at his home. The victim had filed a report at the Superior Headquarters on the Friday prior to the arrest.
Last Saturday, the young man appeared before the duty judge and exercised his right not to testify. The magistrate ordered his release on charges, imposed a restraining order of 200 metres with respect to the victim, and prohibited him from communicating with her by any means while the investigation continues.
