A 23-year-old volleyball coach has been detained in Palma accused of sexually assaulting one of his students, a minor aged 15, and impregnating her, according to rtve.es.
The incidents are reported to have occurred in June. The man, who had been coaching the team for several seasons, invited the victim and another teammate to eat at his home, in accordance with the National Police. After the meal, the second minor left. The coach then drove the girl to a bedroom and sexually assaulted her, subsequently warning her not to reveal what had happened.
The detainee maintained contact with the victim through social media, although the minor eventually blocked him. A relative of the girl noticed her change in behaviour from those days onwards and, weeks later, accompanied her to a hospital centre in Palma after she was feeling unwell. Tests confirmed the pregnancy.
Last Friday the victim filed a report at the Superior Police Headquarters. The Family and Woman Unit (UFAM) of the National Police assumed the investigation and, thanks to the testimony of the minor, managed to identify the suspect.
The man was arrested and invoked his right not to make a statement. After being brought before a judge, he was released on bail on Saturday, subject to a restraining order with respect to the victim.
