The National Police have arrested a 23-year-old volleyball coach in Palma accused of raping one of his players, a 15-year-old, who became pregnant as a consequence of the acts. According to Google News ES — Crime (es), the arrest took place at the end of last week.
The suspect appeared before the judge on Saturday and was released with charges, subject to a restraining order with respect to the victim.
The events date back to June, when the coach invited the adolescent and another teammate to lunch at his home, both of whom he had been training for several seasons. After the meal ended, the second minor left. The victim remained at the residence and, according to her statement, the coach locked her in a room, demanded that she undress herself and raped her, subsequently warning her not to reveal what had occurred.
Weeks later, a relative of the young woman noticed a change in her behaviour. When the minor began to feel unwell, she took her to a hospital centre in Palma, where the pregnancy was confirmed.
After receiving the complaint, the Family and Women Care Unit of the National Police proceeded to arrest the suspect and placed him at the disposal of the duty court.
