A 23-year-old volleyball coach of Bolivian nationality has been detained in Palma accused of raping a minor player and leaving her pregnant, according to elpais.com citing sources close to the case confirmed to Europa Press and information published by the newspaper Última Hora.
The incident dates back to June. The coach, who had been working with the teenagers for several seasons, invited the victim—aged 15—and another minor to eat at his home. At the end of the meal, the second girl left. According to the complaint, the coach then locked the victim in a room, demanded that she undress and raped her, warning her afterwards not to reveal what had happened.
Weeks later, a relative of the minor noticed a marked change in her behaviour. When the young woman began to feel unwell, the relative took her to a hospital centre in Palma, where the pregnancy was confirmed.
After receiving the complaint, the Family and Women's Care Unit of the National Police detained the suspect and placed him at the disposal of the duty judge. The arrest took place last week. Last Saturday, after being brought before a judge, the young man was released on bail with charges and a restraining order.
