Four victims in Huesca targeted by online fraud impersonating LIDL
The National Police station in Huesca has received four reports in three days of a scam campaign impersonating supermarket chain LIDL through internet adverts, according to cadenaser.com.
Cybercriminals are spreading promotions with an official appearance featuring very attractive prices that redirect to fake webpages. These pages replicate LIDL's corporate image with great fidelity: logos, colours, photographs and designs that are practically identical to those of the legitimate site.
Once inside the fake shop, the victim selects a product and completes the purchase believing they are operating on the official website. In this process they provide their personal, contact and banking details, which pass directly into the hands of the fraudsters. The products purchased are never delivered.
To delay suspicion, the criminals go so far as to send an email falsely informing that the order has been delivered, indicating in some cases that a neighbour has picked it up or that it is stored in a safe place.
In light of this situation, the National Police issue a series of recommendations:
- Always check the complete address of the webpage before making any purchase.
- Be suspicious of promotions with excessively low prices.
- Access shops only through their official pages, not from adverts.
- Do not be swayed by messages indicating urgency, such as "last units available".
- Use secure payment methods and activate two-step verification.
