A former representative of the Galician autonomous parliament has admitted his responsibility in a series of sexual attacks against a twelve-year-old girl who was his pupil at an educational centre near Santiago. The agreement reached between the parties sets a penalty of nine and a half years' imprisonment for Xabier Ron, who thereby avoids the opening of a trial.
According to reporting by ABC, the instructor took advantage of the position of authority he held over the student—who at that time was in the second cycle of secondary education—to establish a bond that rapidly escalated outside the school setting. The defendant indicated to the girl how to act in order to keep the meetings secret, meeting in a municipality bordering the city of Santiago, where the perpetrator lived.
The judicial documents record that the abuse included penetration and sadistic conduct. Additionally, the teacher transmitted a sexually transmitted infection to the victim, which was diagnosed during clinical tests. Law enforcement arrested him in late January 2025, and he has remained since then in the Teixeiro prison facility in A Coruña.
During the videoconference hearing in which he validated the facts, the defendant limited himself to confirming the charges with single-word answers, without providing further details. The judicial ruling concludes that the defendant made use of his role as educator to generate in the minor a state of emotional submission that facilitated the meetings.
The abuse extended for approximately twelve months, a period during which the pupil visited the perpetrator's home on occasion following his instructions. Finally, the minor told her family members what had occurred. When the student decided to end contact, Ron requested a transfer to another school in the town of Pontedeume.
The sentence disqualifies him for fifteen years from any work involving minors, and establishes a supervisory regime for ten years once the sentence has been served. Furthermore, the defendant has already handed over €82,000 to the victim as compensation for the psychological harm caused.
Between 2012 and 2016, Ron held a seat in the Galician chamber as part of the Alternativa Galega de Esquerda coalition, specifically representing Esquerda Unida, an organisation at that time headed by the person who now holds the office of second vice-president of the central Executive. Previously, he had stood as a candidate for mayor of Santiago on two occasions under the banner of that party.
The investigation of the case was carried out by the Court of First Instance number 1 of the Galician capital, which maintained the investigation in strict confidentiality and ordered the seizure of all of the defendant's computer equipment, both at his workplace and at his private residence.
