The Public Prosecutor's Office is seeking a conviction against a social worker accused of sexually assaulting a Senegalese immigrant at his home in Alicante in 2022.

Sexual assault on immigrant
According to Libertad Digital, the Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a seven-year prison sentence for a volunteer at an LGBTI+ association in Alicante accused of sexually assaulting a Senegalese immigrant seeking international protection. The facts were tried this Wednesday at the Provincial Court.
The alleged assault occurred on 6 December 2022. The victim, referred to the association by the municipal immigration services office, attended an appointment at the accused's home intending to collect clothing and footwear. The prosecutor considers that the defendant took advantage of the relationship of trust established to commit the assault after the victim undressed to try on the clothing.
The immigrant confirmed his account at trial. He explained that he did not report the facts until fifteen days later because he had just arrived in the country, knew no one and feared reprisals due to his irregular status in Spain, without a residence permit. He also clarified that he did not accept money in exchange for sexual relations with the accused, although he requested 80 euros on two occasions as a loan to pay for his accommodation.
The accused denied the sexual assault. According to his defence, he offered help to the migrant and claimed to have misinterpreted his intentions, citing language barriers as the cause of the confusion.
