Spain's National Police have arrested a fugitive in Valencia sought by German authorities under a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), according to Google News ES — Crime. The detainee is suspected of having participated in an attempted murder committed in September 2025 in the German town of Delmenhorst, a crime for which he could face a life sentence.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with EUROPOL, the SIRENE Office, and Delmenhorst Police.
A planned attack with four individuals involved
According to investigations, the detainee is believed to have acted alongside three other accomplices, each with a defined role in the plan. The suspect is attributed with having conducted prior surveillance of the victim and subsequently executing the attack.
The facts occurred when the victim left a hospitality establishment alone. One of the attackers opened fire repeatedly with a submachine gun, leaving the victim seriously injured with significant long-term consequences. The swift intervention of emergency services prevented the attack from resulting in homicide.
Flight and concealment in Spain
Following the attack, the alleged perpetrators dispersed to different destinations and cut contact between them to hinder their location. German authorities continued the investigation and determined that two of the fugitives could be found in Spanish territory.
From that point on, a joint investigation was launched between Spain's National Police and Delmenhorst Police, coordinated by EUROPOL. After several meetings and operational procedures, investigators managed to locate the fugitive in the city of Valencia.
Three loaded weapons seized during searches
Once located, a police operation was deployed that resulted in his arrest. Officers subsequently carried out raids and searches at two residences where the fugitive was hiding.
During these searches, three short firearms, loaded and ready to fire, were seized, along with electronic devices and cash. The detainee is at the disposal of the competent judicial authority for possible extradition to Germany under the European Arrest Warrant.
