Jonathan Andic, 45, was arrested on Tuesday by Catalan police as part of a reopened investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, according to bbc.com.
Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after falling down a ravine while walking in the mountains of Montserrat, near Barcelona, alongside his son. Media outlets have provided conflicting accounts of whether both were alone or whether other family members were present.
The investigation was initially closed in early 2025 due to lack of evidence of criminal activity, but was subsequently reopened after inconsistencies were detected in Jonathan's testimony, according to newspaper La Vanguardia.
Jonathan was taken from his home shortly after 11:00 local time to be questioned again by police. He later appeared before a judge, who ordered his provisional imprisonment with bail set at one million euros (£865,000), ordered the withdrawal of his passport and required him to report to the court weekly.
A family spokesperson told Reuters that Jonathan was being questioned and that the family had complete confidence in his innocence. Jonathan had previously denied any responsibility in his father's death.
Jonathan joined Mango in 2005 and subsequently headed the Mango Man line. Following his father's death, he took on the role of vice-president of the board of directors.
Isak Andic, born in Turkey, founded Mango alongside his brother Nahman in Barcelona in 1984. The chain now operates nearly 3,000 stores in 120 countries. At the time of his death, Forbes estimated his net worth at 4.5 billion dollars.
