Man arrested in Ponferrada for attacking shops remanded in custody

The incidents occurred during the night of 4 to 5 June. Officers deployed on prevention and public safety duties were summoned by the CIMACC-091 Control Room to proceed to Obispo Osmundo street, where several witnesses had alerted authorities to the presence of an individual smashing the windows of several establishments. The description provided was precise: a man wearing a green upper garment and a red cap.
On arrival, officers noted considerable damage to the window of a butcher's shop, which appeared fractured. At another establishment in the same area they found a hole in the window consistent with the impact of a blunt object.
In the surrounding area they located a man matching the witnesses' description. Next to one of the premises a mobile telephone was seized that belonged to him. The suspect himself spontaneously indicated to the officers that he had thrown the object used to cause the damage among bushes in Sánchez Albornoz square; the item was recovered at that location and sent to Scientific Police for analysis.
The investigation linked the arrested man to other similar attacks recently recorded in the capital of Bierzo, including those suffered by two ham shops and several butcher's shops in Ponferrada, all carried out with similar modus operandi. Officers also verified that a restraining order was in force against the arrested man with respect to one of the victims affected by these incidents.
With police proceedings concluded, the arrested man was handed over to the judicial authority, which ordered his remand in custody.
