The National Police arrested a 39-year-old man in Santander on Friday as the suspected perpetrator of the murder of his partner, a 27-year-old woman, according to rtve.es. The incident occurred at midday on Calle Floranes, in the centre of the Cantabrian capital, and is being investigated as a new case of gender-based violence.
The CIMACC-091 Operations Centre received an emergency call at 12:30 requesting the urgent presence of officers at the residence, the Cantabrian Police Headquarters reported. Upon entering the property, officers found the woman with bleeding wounds, allegedly caused by stabbing with a sharp weapon.
The emergency medical services dispatched to the scene could only confirm the victim's death, despite the urgent assistance requested by the officers.
The arrested man was detained at the scene of the incident and confessed to the crime to the police. He was subsequently transferred to the National Police Station in Santander.
The authorities confirmed that the deceased was not listed in the VioGén surveillance system and that there were no prior complaints. Following the incident, the appropriate protocol for cases of gender-based violence was activated and specialised officers are working to clarify the circumstances of the murder.
The Government Delegation in Cantabria sent information about this alleged femicide to the Ministry of Equality for evaluation and inclusion in official statistics.
