The National Police arrested a 39-year-old man on Friday in Santander as the suspected perpetrator of the homicide of his partner, a 27-year-old woman, according to telecinco.es. The incident took place at midday in a flat on the central Calle Perines.
The arrested man himself contacted the police and confessed to being the author of the crime. Police sources indicated in a statement that the case is being investigated as an alleged case of gender-based violence, and that there are no records of previous complaints of male violence between the two.
The 091 emergency line received a call at 12:30 requesting police presence at the residence. Upon arriving at the property, officers found the woman with bleeding wounds, possibly caused by a bladed weapon. Emergency medical services, alerted urgently, were only able to confirm the victim's death.
The man, partner of the deceased, was arrested at the scene, handcuffed and transferred to the National Police station in Santander. The police station immediately activated the protocol established for cases of gender-based violence, in accordance with information also published by El Diario Montañés.
The Government Delegation against Gender-Based Violence commented on the incident and indicated that they are "gathering information about the murder for alleged gender-based violence". The Government Delegation in Cantabria, for its part, forwarded available information about the case to the Ministry of Equality.
