The National Police have seized 1,410 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in a shed linked to the 'Fanchos' clan, according to information released by the General Directorate of the Police on Monday, as reported by servimedia.es. The operation, which involved collaboration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), resulted in the arrest of three men, including the historic leader of the clan.
Investigation begins: two vessels and a Galician beach
The investigation began on 20 August after officers became aware that two vessels had brought a significant shipment of cocaine ashore at a beach in A Pobra do Caramiñal. According to initial information, the 'Fanchos' clan had allegedly assumed responsibility for unloading and guarding the drug.
The inquiry focused from the outset on the leader of the clan, identified as one of the coordinators of the shipment. Various surveillance operations were established to determine his degree of involvement and clarify the facts.
Movements detected in the early hours
On 21 August at 06.55 hours, investigators observed a vehicle pulling up at the address of the main suspect. Shortly afterwards, a person emerged carrying a rucksack and got into the vehicle; its occupants took numerous security measures to avoid being followed or detected.
During the early hours of 22 August, the leader of the clan, accompanied by two other men, made several trips between his home and a shed situated opposite his property, very close to O Conchido beach. The three individuals began transferring heavy packages from that shed to another property in the same municipality.
Based on the characteristics of the packages and the way they were being handled, investigators suspected they might contain cocaine. Given the evidence of the transfer and concealment of the drug, the three individuals involved were arrested and the drug was secured.
1,410 kilogrammes of cocaine, heroin and cash seized
Officers carried out searches at the address of the main suspect, at the shed and at the third property to which the packages had been transferred. The result was the seizure of 1,410 kilogrammes of cocaine, 100 grammes of heroin, cash and other items of interest to the investigation.
The three detainees, who are attributed with the offences of membership of a criminal organisation and drug trafficking, were made available to the judicial authorities on the morning of Monday 24 August.
