Three arrested following the discovery of more than 1,400 kilos of cocaine linked to the 'Fanchos' clan

The National Police have seized 1,410 kilos of cocaine in the city of A Pobra do Caramiñal in Coruña, according to interior.gob.es. The drug was distributed between a dwelling and an adjoining shed located very close to O Conchido beach. Three men were arrested in the operation, including the leader of the historic "Fanchos" clan.

The three detainees are at the disposal of the judicial authority as alleged perpetrators of the offences of membership in a criminal organisation and drug trafficking.

The investigation began on 20 August with DEA collaboration

The operation began on 20 August, when officers became aware that two vessels had introduced a significant quantity of cocaine through a beach in the municipality. The investigation was conducted with the collaboration of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). According to initial information, the "Fanchos" clan would have assumed responsibility for the unloading and custody of the narcotic.

The enquiries focused from the outset on the leader of the clan, identified as one of the coordinators of the shipment. Different surveillance operations were established to determine his degree of participation and clarify the facts.

Extreme security measures to avoid being detected

On 21 August, at 06:55, investigators observed the arrival of a vehicle at the main suspect's residence. Shortly afterwards, a person left the dwelling with a rucksack and got into the vehicle. The vehicle's occupants adopted numerous measures to avoid being followed or detected.

During the early morning of 22 August, the leader of the clan made several trips together with two other men from his residence to a shed situated opposite his property, very close to O Conchido beach. Officers observed how the three individuals began to move large packages to another dwelling in the same municipality.

Given the characteristics of the packages and the manner in which they were handled, investigators suspected that the substance was cocaine. Faced with evidence of the transfer and concealment of the substance, the three individuals involved were arrested and the drug was secured.

Three searches and the results of the operation

Officers carried out three searches: at the main suspect's residence, at the shed, and at the dwelling to which the packages had been moved. The final tally was 1,410 kilos of cocaine, 100 grams of heroin, cash and other items of interest to the investigation.

The three detainees, including the leader of the historic "Fanchos" clan, will be brought before judicial authorities charged with membership in a criminal organisation and drug trafficking.
