A cargo vehicle was stopped on the AP-7 motorway near La Vila Joiosa in one of the largest drug seizures recorded in the province. The driver was arrested.

A heavy goods vehicle was stopped last week on the AP-7 motorway, near La Vila Joiosa, when it was carrying illegal goods on a large scale: approximately seven tonnes of hashish concealed amongst construction materials. The transport driver was placed under police custody.
The operation was carried out by members of the Greco units—specialised in combating criminal networks—from the Alicante and Málaga delegations, with support from the Alicante Provincial Judicial Police Brigade. The lorry was already under surveillance when officers decided to intercept it.
Once at the port of Alicante, the officers inspected the cargo. The sacks, which initially appeared to contain only sand for construction, actually harboured blocks of cannabis resin covered in silica dust. By examining the containers one by one, the officers managed to extract approximately 7,000 kilograms of the narcotic substance.
Following the seizure, the detainee was taken to the police station together with the confiscated drugs. For the moment, neither the Regional Police headquarters nor the National Police Corps general headquarters have provided information about the lorry's point of origin or about future arrests linked to the case.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the newspaper Levante-EMV.
