National Police detained a man transporting more than 3,000 litres of petrol in containers without safety measures. The operation is related to the supply of narco-speedboats.

Officers from the National Police detained a driver on the night of 23 June in Jerez de la Frontera who was transporting 3,330 litres of fuel distributed in 169 containers of 25 litres, all without the safety measures required for hazardous materials. The operation is part of the fight against "petaqueo", an activity which, according to the police force, poses a risk to road safety and is essential for supplying the vessels used by drug trafficking networks.
The detention occurred around 22:30 hours, when a Citizen Security patrol observed a van whose suspension showed abnormal sagging that made officers suspect it was carrying a very heavy load. Upon noticing the police presence, the driver attempted to evade the checkpoint with an evasive manoeuvre, which triggered a pursuit that concluded with the vehicle being stopped and its occupant being identified.
During a search of the interior of the van, officers located the containers filled with highly flammable liquid. The detainee was taken to the police station and subsequently handed over to the corresponding judicial authority.
This practice, known as "petaqueo", consists of the illegal transport of large quantities of fuel intended for refuelling semi-rigid boats and other vessels used by criminal organisations dedicated to drug trafficking by sea. The operation is part of the surveillance systems that security forces maintain in Cádiz province, one of the areas most affected by drug trafficking in Spain.
