A 27-year-old man died on Thursday afternoon at the Doctor Balmis University General Hospital in Alicante after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with head trauma, according to antena3.com. The injuries occurred in the early hours during a fight at the TRAM stop at Campo de Golf in Playa de San Juan.
National Police arrested a 22-year-old man as the suspected perpetrator. Police sources confirmed to the Europa Press agency that the detainee was awaiting transfer to judicial authorities.
According to the information published, the alleged attacker and the victim initially had a verbal conflict that escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, the 22-year-old man allegedly kicked the other man in the head, causing him to strike against the TRAM rails as a result of the impact.
The Alicante Emergency Coordination and Information Centre (CICU) received the alert at 05:37. An Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU) unit and a basic life support (SVB) unit were dispatched to the TRAM stop, which is located near the leisure area, according to details provided by the CICU in a statement.
During treatment at the scene, the young man suffered cardiorespiratory arrest. The SAMU team applied cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques until they managed to revive him, after which he was transferred to the Doctor Balmis University General Hospital. However, the victim died several hours later, already into the evening.
In a separate incident, the Civil Guard arrested a 31-year-old man in Moncofa who allegedly approached another person with a white weapon to rob money from them after leaving a banking entity in Borriana, in Castellón. According to the armed institute, the suspect allegedly watched the victim from when they left the bank and waited for the right moment to attack them.
