The duty court in Fuengirola (Málaga) ordered the release on Wednesday of the individual who had been taken into custody by the Guardia Civil in connection with the fatal accident on 6 July on the A-7 motorway, at the level of the municipality of Mijas, where a 17-year-old girl with a Norwegian passport named Nikoline died. The regional Superior Court, the TSJA, clarified that the court's decision imposes no restrictions on freedom for the exonerated individual nor brings criminal charges against him. The investigation of the case falls to another section of the same Fuengirola judicial body, section number 4.
The Guardia Civil's traffic unit continues its inquiries to locate the vehicle that struck the young woman and to identify the driver, as they fled the scene without rendering assistance.
The girl, a minor and Norwegian citizen, was identified following a missing person alert issued by her family. Since the end of June she had been enjoying a holiday on the Costa del Sol; the last time she was seen alive was in the early hours near a nightclub in Marbella.
Sources from 112 indicated that the impact occurred at approximately 5.20 hours at kilometre point 1,027 of the A-7 heading towards Marbella, after several people travelling in the area noticed that a woman had been struck by a car.
