Spanish National Police arrested a minor of Spanish nationality in the province of Granada on Wednesday 27 May, according to apd.cat. The detainee had been publishing personal data of members of several sensitive state institutions on internet forums, a practice known in digital circles as doxing.
The affected institutions include the National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe), the Public Prosecutor's Office, the National Security Council, the Spanish National Police, the Civil Guard, the State Attorney General's Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Agency.
The investigation was activated upon detection of an "immediate risk" to the safety and integrity of both those affected and the institutions themselves. The facts are being investigated as an alleged offence of disclosure of secrets, under the direction of Instruction Court 22 in Madrid.
The operation, coordinated from the capital, culminated in the arrest of the minor and a search of his home in Granada. The case links the data publication campaign to threats and denunciations distributed through the network.
The investigating court has kept proceedings open to determine whether there were other people involved in the dissemination. The investigation also aims to identify and dismantle the network of profiles that participated in the campaign of threats and exposure of personal information.
