Minor "instigator" of brawl that left three injured in Valladolid admitted to secure facility
A detained minor suspected of instigating the fight between Latin gang members on 17 May in Valladolid has been admitted to a secure facility. Eleven people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.
Eleven arrested over blade-wielding brawl at Las Moreras beach
The Youth Prosecutor ordered on Friday 4 June the admission to a secure facility of the minor considered the suspected "instigator" of the mass fight between youth groups linked to Latin gangs that on 17 May left three people injured by blade weapons in Valladolid, two of them seriously. According to ABC, the young man is the eleventh person arrested as part of the investigation.
The minor's admission to the facility follows provisional imprisonment already ordered for the two adults arrested in the early hours of the incident. In total, the National Police have arrested eleven people for their suspected involvement in the brawl, following an investigation that included analysis of footage and cross-checking of testimonies gathered in the days following the incident.
Eight arrested for rioting, one charged with attempted murder
Of the newly arrested individuals, eight—including two minors—have been released after appearing before the judge, facing charges of rioting. The minor considered the instigator faces additional charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of weapons. At the time of the fight, he was carrying a large machete.
The Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police in Valladolid established from the initial stages that those involved "were linked to violent youth groups".
The fight near a pitch at a San Pedro Regalado festival
The incident occurred at around two in the morning in the Las Moreras beach area, close to Valladolid city centre, where a techno music party linked to the San Pedro Regalado festivals was being held. Officers stationed some fifty metres away carrying out surveillance duties were alerted to a brawl breaking out on a nearby football pitch, in which several individuals were using blade weapons, including a machete of approximately 45 centimetres.
On arriving at the scene, police located a man attempting to flee while disguising his presence among other young people sitting on a wall. Upon detecting the officers, he threw the machete into the river, but was arrested moments later as the suspected perpetrator of attempted murder and assault. Simultaneously, another person was arrested for rioting. Both were remanded in custody.
The initial intervention was described by law enforcement as "especially complex owing to several individuals attempting to obstruct police action".
Three injured, one with a wound to the neck
The brawl resulted in three injured, including minors: one found bloodied with blade weapon wounds to the back; another with a cut to the hand affecting the tendons; and a third with a wound to the neck and heavy bleeding.
According to investigators, the fight was reportedly motivated by "revenge" for a stabbing that had occurred between the same groups a few days earlier, during the festivals of the nearby locality of Laguna de Duero.
