Homicide in the centre of Plasencia
According to elperiodicoextremadura.com, the National Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the early hours of Friday in Plasencia. A 22-year-old man of Moroccan descent died after allegedly being stabbed by another 19-year-old, who was detained shortly afterwards at a local residence.
The attack took place around 02:00 hours in the vicinity of Calle Talavera, allegedly following an argument. The young man was taken to Virgen del Puerto hospital, where he died from wounds caused by a bladed weapon.
Search operation underway
Officers have searched Calle Talavera, Calle Encarnación and other escape routes in search of the knife used in the crime. The suspected perpetrator was not carrying the weapon when he was detained, suggesting he hid it or threw it away during his return home. The National Police have also requested footage from surveillance cameras installed in the area and have contacted local shopkeepers to obtain that material.
Thanks to statements from eyewitnesses, officers were able to locate the suspected perpetrator and a second young man at a residence when they were apparently preparing to flee. Further arrests have not been ruled out, although the Superior Headquarters of the National Police in Extremadura has not confirmed this information.
Community reaction
Videos recorded in the area show drops of blood on Calle Talavera and Calle Encarnación, as well as surgical gloves and police cordon tape. Residents and shopkeepers have expressed alarm at the events. One neighbour said: "Good grief, that these things happen in Plasencia...". Another resident added: "It frightens you, it makes your hair stand on end, people are mad, they were just children".
The Association of Shopkeepers of Calle Talavera and Puerta Talavera has stated that both the establishments and their customers are "very disturbed" and worried. The time of the incident—just after two o'clock in the morning on a Thursday night of youth outings, with a nightclub active in the area—left many young people in the vicinity.
The case was initially investigated as attempted homicide until the victim's death was confirmed.
