Woman stabbed in Santander: her partner confesses to crime to police
A 27-year-old woman died after being stabbed in a flat on Calle Perines in Santander. Her partner, aged 39, called 091 and confessed to the crime.

A 27-year-old woman died on Friday at midday in a flat on Calle Perines in Santander, according to El Mundo. The National Police arrested her partner, a 39-year-old man, as the alleged perpetrator of the assault with a white weapon.
The arrested man himself called 091 at 12.30 hours to request police attendance at the property. When officers arrived, they found the woman with bleeding wounds. Emergency health services, alerted urgently, could only certify her death.
The detainee confessed to the crime at the scene. He was taken to the National Police station in Santander, where the gender violence protocol was activated. Specialist officers from the Judicial and Scientific brigades, as well as Citizen Security, attended the property to clarify the circumstances of the homicide.
Police sources indicated that there are no records of previous reports of gender-based violence between the couple. The couple had a young son together.
The Government Delegation in Cantabria forwarded the information gathered to the Ministry of Equality. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence, in a message on social network X reported by Europa Press, indicated that, if the gender-based nature of the crime is confirmed, the number of women murdered so far this year would rise to 33, and to 1,374 since 2003, the year data collection began.
The number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain would reach 22 in 2026 and 532 since 2013.
For Saturday, 1 August, the Government Delegation convened a protest rally in Santander's Plaza del Ayuntamiento from 10.00 hours onwards. The Government Delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares; the mayor, Gema Igual; and the regional executive's councillor for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Begoña Gómez del Río will attend.
