A 34-year-old Brazilian woman was stabbed to death by her partner in a flat on Andrade Street in Barcelona's Sant Martí district, according to Catalan police. The suspected perpetrator, a Venezuelan citizen with dual Spanish nationality, fled after the attack and remains at large.
According to rtve.es, the victim's two children, aged 4 and 8, were in the flat at the time of the homicide, although it is unclear whether they witnessed the attack.
The Mossos d'Esquadra received a report at 19:47 hours of an assault inside a flat. Several patrol cars were dispatched to the scene and found the woman with serious injuries. Emergency services attended to her at the location, but were unable to save her life and her death was confirmed.
The investigation has been handed to the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos d'Esquadra, which is working to clarify the circumstances of the assault.
If the case is confirmed as gender-based violence, it would be the 32nd victim so far this year, and the 1,373rd since 2003.
