Man arrested for fatal stabbing of his partner in a flat in Santander

A 27-year-old woman died from stab wounds on Friday in a flat at number 12 Calle Perines in Santander, according to reports from 20minutos.es. The National Police detained her partner, a 38-year-old man, as the suspected perpetrator of the crime, which is being investigated as a possible case of gender-based violence.

At 12.30 hours, the 091 emergency line received a call requesting police presence at the flat. It was the arrested man himself who made the call and confessed to the crime, according to police sources in a statement.

Upon arriving at the flat, officers found the woman with bleeding wounds consistent with a knife wound. Emergency medical services, mobilised urgently, were only able to confirm her death. The detained man was taken to the National Police station in Santander, where the specific protocol for gender-based violence cases was activated.

There are no records of previous complaints of gender-based violence between the two. The couple had a young child together.

Specialist officers are working to clarify the circumstances of the homicide. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence confirmed that it is gathering information about the case.

Should it be confirmed as a femicide, it would bring the number of female victims of gender-based violence so far this year to 33, and 1,374 since 2003.

Victims of gender-based violence and those around them can seek help through telephone 016, email [email protected] or via WhatsApp on 600 000 016, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In emergency situations, calls can be made to 112, 091 (National Police) or 062 (Civil Guard). The ALERTCOPS application is also available, which sends an alert signal with geolocation to law enforcement forces.
