Agents from the Guardia Civil deployed a control operation in the Huelva towns of Isla Cristina and Ayamonte. The objective: to inspect boats suspected of providing logistical support to networks dedicated to drug trafficking. The operation took place during the afternoon of Wednesday in areas frequented by drug smuggling boats.
According to information from Canal Sur, the officers examined more than seventy fishing and recreational vessels. Of that total, eleven presented administrative or technical deficiencies. Normally, these vessels lack the mandatory paperwork established by maritime regulations.
Pedro Fernández, representative of the central government in Andalucía, clarified that this is the ninth periodic inspection carried out by the armed body. The inspections seek to verify compliance with navigation regulations and detect signs of cooperation with criminal organisations operating on the coast.
The operation is part of a security plan named "Campo de Gibraltar", launched in summer 2018 and subsequently expanded to most of Andalusian territory. Fernández stressed that this strategy has allowed specialist Guardia Civil units, such as the GRS, to be deployed in the area, tasked with halting these illicit practices.
