Driver detained after fatal hit-and-run of Norwegian tourist on Málaga motorway
A middle-aged man driving a commercial vehicle has been taken into custody after striking a young Scandinavian woman who was walking on a high-speed road. The victim, a Norwegian national, had been at a nightclub in Marbella hours earlier celebrating her country's victory in the 2026 World Cup tournament.
Armed police officers located the suspect after analysing footage captured by surveillance cameras installed between kilometre marker 1027 and the Fuengirola area. They observed a white commercial van with a broken windscreen and frame deformation, signs consistent with impact with a human body.
The Guardia Civil spokesman, Jorge García Badía, confirmed that the suspect is a Spanish man with children, aged between forty and fifty. According to his statement, the man was driving in his correct lane when the pedestrian suddenly entered the road, something explicitly prohibited in that section. However, he noted that, despite this mitigating circumstance, the driver was obliged to stop after the collision, which he failed to do.
It remains unclear whether the arrested man was heading to work when the incident occurred, or whether his flight was prompted by panic over the legal consequences. The individual has already appeared before the judicial authority.
According to Antena 3, the victim had been on the Costa del Sol enjoying her holiday.
