A municipal police officer in Pamplona has been admitted to the Hospital Universitario de Navarra with a fractured jaw after being punched in the face during the arrest of a man of Nigerian origin, according to navarra.okdiario.com. The incident occurred around 23:00 on Sunday in the Taconera park, next to the Café Vienés.
The intervention began after the detainee sexually assaulted a woman who was sitting on a bench in the park. When another woman attempted to help the victim, the aggressor turned towards a group of people who were drinking in the area, triggering a fight in which he himself was wounded in an arm.
Upon the officers' arrival, the man punched one of them directly in the face without saying a word, causing the fracture. The police officer was taken to hospital to receive medical assistance. At the time of arrest, the detainee was carrying a bladed weapon.
The Municipal Police of Pamplona officially confirmed that the officer was wounded during the operation. The union SIPNA expressed its support for the officer via the social network X: "Our support for our Pamplona Municipal Police colleague, seriously wounded by a very violent individual tonight. We hope he recovers from the serious injuries sustained."
The union used the message to comment on officers' working conditions: "Every day we face more dangerous individuals as a consequence of a soft-handed policy that protects the wrongdoer," SIPNA stated in its post.
