An employee of an Italian restaurant located in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, was seriously injured after being stabbed by his employer during a workplace dispute in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The worker had complained to the owner about working conditions, which included daily shifts of 14 to 16 hours.
According to the newspaper "Mallorca Zeitung", the employee had complained of degrading treatment and alleged violent acts against staff by the businessman. During the confrontation, the restaurant owner disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a knife, with which he attacked the waiter.
The victim suffered a significant wound to his left knee, approximately 15 centimetres long and 3 centimetres deep. Colleagues immediately provided first aid, managing to stop the heavy bleeding. Subsequently, emergency services transported the injured man to a hospital, where the wound was closed with ten staples.
Police questioned the victim and several witnesses, who confirmed the waiter's account. The attacker initially fled the scene, but returned later to the crime scene in a nervous state. He offered the officers a different explanation: he claimed that the employee had accidentally injured himself with a chair leg. The investigators examined the metal chair and found no traces of blood. Although one leg was broken, police ruled out the possibility that the injury could have been caused in that way.
The restaurant owner was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. The investigation remains open.
