Helicopter and boat pursuit after yacht theft in Mallorca

Google News RO — Crime (ro) reports that a Romanian citizen aged 52 was arrested on Sunday in Spain after allegedly stealing a luxury vessel valued at over one million euro from a port on the island of Mallorca.

The disappearance of the yacht was reported via the emergency number 112, and Spanish authorities immediately went on alert. The vessel's GPS signal allowed investigators to determine its position after it had already left the port.

A helicopter and two vessels of the Civil Guard were mobilised for interception. Officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to stop, but the man refused and allegedly attempted to ram the police boats. He was finally immobilised after a pursuit conducted simultaneously from the air and from the water.

The Romanian is currently arrested on charges of theft, assault on law enforcement representatives and failure to comply with authorities.
