An officer from Granada's local police force has been imprisoned following a sentence imposing 29 months for psychological abuse and mistreatment against his former partner.

A subinspector from Granada's municipal security force has begun serving time in the province's penitentiary centre following a judicial ruling for habitual mistreatment against his former partner. People informed about the proceedings confirmed the admission to El Independiente de Granada.
The custodial sentence is being carried out after the Public Prosecutor's Office opposed the punishment being suspended. Initially, the court imposed a custodial sentence of two years and eight months, which was subsequently reduced to two years and five months following review by the Appeals Court.
Criminal court number 5 in the Andalusian city also decreed disqualification from carrying weapons for three years — with the consequent annulment of the existing authorisation — and prohibited any contact or approach to either the assaulted woman or one of their two daughters. Regarding the other minor, no restrictions were established.
The judge based her decision primarily on the initial statement by the victim. However, she considered that subsequent expansions of the testimony lacked objective evidentiary support.
The facts declared proven place the beginning of deterioration in 2017, when the victim chose to prepare for civil service examinations and, later, to pursue doctoral studies. From that point onwards, according to the ruling, the accused intensified dynamics of domination, pathological jealousy and systematic contempt.
The court describes how the now imprisoned man repeatedly used degrading epithets — such as insults alluding to the woman's promiscuity, appearance or weight — with the aim of undermining her dignity and self-image. At the same time, he criticised her personal appearance, her job performance and her academic achievements.
The ruling also records intimidating expressions — threats to kill her or mutilate parts of her body — together with coercive behaviour and aggression towards objects, all aimed at exerting emotional control over her.
During the period of cohabitation, the defendant also displayed violent behaviour — breaking items, throwing things — and a belligerent attitude towards the minors as well, whom he left out of domestic and family obligations.
The same official is implicated in another investigation opened into an alleged web of irregularities in the entrance examinations for the police force. Notably, whilst that case and the present one were proceeding, Mayor Marifrán Carazo appointed him head of training for the local force's academy. Faced with controversy, the council initially defended the legality of the appointment, before being forced to revoke it.
