According to diaridetarragona.com, approximately fifteen officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra, in coordination with Reus Urban Police, deployed an operation on Thursday against a drug den on Martí Napolità street. The intervention resulted in one arrest.
Agents arrived at the premises shortly after three in the afternoon in three vans. They initially forced open the building's door. Subsequently, professionals from Última Llar took charge of three large dogs that were living in the property, suspected of harbouring drug trafficking activity.
Half an hour later, and under the gaze of neighbours watching from balconies, the Mossos transported the detainee in handcuffs to police headquarters. The spokesperson for the CUP at Reus City Council, Mònica Pàmies, also travelled to the scene.
The operation is part of a week of intensive policing in the city. The previous Friday, the Mossos had arrested four people during a Kanpai operation in the Gaudí and Mas Pellicer neighbourhoods. Three of those arrested are under investigation for alleged offences against public health related to cocaine and heroin trafficking; the fourth had a pending police warrant.
Urban Police, National Police and ARRO personnel also participated in that operation. Officers identified 152 people, 58 of whom had a total of 315 police records. Seventeen complaints were filed for drug possession, three for possession of prohibited weapons and another 17 for traffic violations. In addition, four electric scooters were seized for driving without compulsory insurance and two court summonses were issued.
Kanpai operations aim to prevent crime, combat drug trafficking and act against repeat offenders in areas of high public access. In recent years they have become consolidated as one of the main tools of security forces for reinforcing order in urban environments in Reus.
