A former mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona) was arrested last Sunday in a coastal municipality in Barcelona province after an incident of indecent exposure in a shared bathing area. The arrest was carried out by municipal officers from Santa Susanna.
The incident took place in the swimming pool area of a tourist accommodation facility, where the individual—48 years old—entered among the users and began to engage in obvious genital touching. There were dozens of people at the site, including minors, according to reporting by elDiario.es.
Witnesses alerted the establishment's staff, who requested the presence of the authorities. When uniformed officers proceeded with the arrest, the person involved showed evident signs of disorientation and agitation. Sources from the local council described his condition as "highly disturbed".
The arrested man held the position of mayor in his home town between 2007 and 2011 under the PSC party banner. He subsequently served as deputy mayor. In the 2021-2024 parliamentary term, he held a seat in the Parliament of Catalonia within the Junts per Catalunya group. From late 2024, he was a member of MESCat, a local political platform.
Following news of the arrest, this political group issued a statement expressing its "dismay" at the events. The party leadership immediately opened a disciplinary inquiry and agreed to the precautionary suspension of his membership whilst the events are investigated.
The Instruction section of the court in Arenys de Mar agreed to his release with the obligation to appear before the tribunal. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia confirmed that the individual is being investigated for an alleged offence of indecent exposure.
The case has generated considerable media attention in Catalan political circles due to the institutional career of the person involved, who has been a member of different political organisations throughout his career.
