A woman from León was found dead at a rural house after calling 112 herself to report she had been attacked. A retired man was arrested at the scene. Authorities rule out a romantic relationship between the two.

A 38-year-old resident was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday morning at an isolated dwelling in the Las Chanas area of the municipality of Camponaraya in León. The deceased, named María, sustained fatal injuries consistent with an attack by a large bladed weapon, according to ABC.
The victim herself called the emergency services, alerting them that she had been attacked. When Civil Guard officers arrived at the property, the door was locked and they had to climb over the fence to enter, where they found the body.
The arrest of a 64-year-old man, identified by the initials F.J.C., took place at the same house. The detainee, who is no longer working after a career as machinery operator in extractive industries, resided at that property remote from urban centres. The abundant vegetation surrounding the property provided him with almost complete isolation from the neighbourhood.
Neither the deceased nor the arrested man were registered on the municipal electoral roll of Camponaraya, and both were virtually unknown to residents of the area, among whom the incident has caused considerable shock.
The representative of the central government in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, has stated that preliminary investigations have found no evidence of a romantic relationship between the two, and therefore the case is not classified as gender-based violence. "There is no relationship that would fit this case into gender-based violence, but investigations remain open to clarify what happened," he told Ical. The suspected perpetrator was handed over to the judicial authorities on Thursday.
