A source familiar with police activity points out that in A Coruña "it is not normal to have more than two or three homicides per year" and that the most common cases are those that stem from fights or altercations that escalate to cause death. Another source, familiar with the operations of the National Police in Galicia, notes that "normally deaths in the street are due to settling of scores or crimes of passion": family arguments, neighbourhood disputes or confrontations between gangs.
During the investigation, officers called a A Coruña resident to give a statement as a witness. However, upon checking that he had an outstanding claim relating to a matter unrelated to the Os Rosales crime, they proceeded to detain him on that independent grounds.
