The French government has launched an urgent review of 70,000 files of complaints involving children, with a deadline set for 14 July. The Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, announced on television that more than twelve hundred arrests had taken place over the course of seven days, all linked to assaults against minors. He described the Lyhanna case as a decisive turning point in the fight against these crimes.
The head of government, Sébastien Lecornu, publicly denounced on X the failings of the child protection system. He referred to an accumulation of errors, negligence and inappropriate decisions. He clarified, however, that his criticism was not aimed at all law enforcement officers or the judiciary.
