A traffic stop in the Bourrassol district of Toulouse allowed police to discover 1.7 kg of cocaine and more than 9,000 euros in cash. Two men have been placed in detention.

On Monday, in the Bourrassol district of Toulouse, police from the specialised field unit of Mirail stopped two individuals originally from Guyana. An inspection of their vehicle revealed traces of cocaine and portions of powder packaged for resale.
This discovery triggered an in-depth investigation. Reinforced by colleagues from the anti-crime unit, officers conducted a search in Saint-Jean, in the Toulouse conurbation. There, they found additional drugs, including ketamine, cannabis and ecstasy, as well as more than 9,000 euros in notes. The searches also covered two cars and a scooter.
In total, investigators seized 1.7 kilograms of cocaine, according to La Dépêche du Midi. A woman, arrested at one of the suspects' homes, was also questioned. A swift trip to Bordeaux led to the discovery of additional bags of powder at her residence.
According to a source close to the case, one of the two men reportedly made multiple trips between Cayenne and mainland France since January. Investigators suspect these journeys are linked to drug supplies. In the border zone between Guyana and Suriname, cocaine is abundant and inexpensive, which makes the trafficking particularly lucrative once in France.
Aged 24 and 25, the two suspects appeared before Toulouse magistrates' court on Friday. Their lawyers, Me Justine Rucel and Me Cédric Bréan, requested a delay to prepare their defence. The judge accepted this request whilst ordering their remand in custody. Their trial is scheduled for Friday, 7 August.
