Fatal assault in Narbonne: five youths remanded in custody following Louis's death

A 17-year-old youth named Louis died in Narbonne, in the Aude département, following a violent assault committed by five individuals. The incident occurred last week on a construction site. Images of the attack were recorded, showing the victim receiving projectiles to the head whilst lying on the ground, apparently unconscious. Left at the scene, the boy died a few days later, despite the efforts of emergency responders.

Five suspects were arrested: two adults and three teenagers. They were charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody. The prosecutor's magistrate for Narbonne, Jean-Philippe Rey, indicated that none of them had previous police records. He also clarified that the victim had no criminal record.

The reasons for the attack have not yet been clarified. The representative of the public prosecution, however, ruled out a racially motivated motive. Furthermore, Louis had filed a complaint in May 2026 for violence, accusing different people from those currently in detention.

Since the tragedy, wreaths and a portrait of the deceased have been placed at the scene. Emotions are running high in the Aude city.
