A jury in the Somme has imposed a heavy sentence on a husband who killed his wife with 19 knife blows in March 2023, after having planned the act.

A 47-year-old husband was tried on Monday 15 June 2026 by the assize court of the Somme department for having taken the life of his spouse, Fatiha Mahdi, on 3 March 2023. The events took place outside a hotel establishment in the Saint-Ladre sector of Amiens. The convicted man was sentenced to thirty years' imprisonment, with a security period fixed at two-thirds (twenty years with no possibility of sentence adjustment) and an obligation of social and judicial supervision lasting ten years.
The prosecution, led by Véronique Parent, had requested life imprisonment coupled with eighteen years' security. She described this tragedy as a "femicide", characterising the act as the destruction of a wife on account of her gender. She emphasised the possessive nature of the act, arguing that nineteen knife blows indicated hatred rather than love.
The accused admitted to having prepared his act. Forty-eight hours before the murder, he had filmed a twenty-five-minute message justifying his act, evoking suspicions of infidelity. Psychiatric examination found no impairment of his mental discernment, although an expert psychologist for the defence contended otherwise.
The accused's lawyer, Ms Florine Talon, argued for a "crime of passion" committed by an individual overwhelmed by suffering, evoking his family background marked by adultery and depressive episodes. The jury did not accept this theory.
