Deadly shooting in François: suspect remanded in custody in Ducos
Gendarmes on the island arrested the individual suspected of opening fire at the end of May in the centre of François. The arrest came nearly four weeks after the incident, which had resulted in the death of a secondary school student and the injury of an adult.
The tragedy had occurred on 30 May 2026, at around 19:30, near a petrol station in the heart of the locality. A 17-year-old had succumbed to his injuries, whilst a man in his thirties was struck by a bullet to the thorax.
Fleeing the scene after the gunshots, the suspect was found and identified by investigators from Marin and Fort-de-France. Questioned in custody on 23 June, he eventually admitted his involvement to officers of the judicial police.
Presented before the court on 25 June, he was charged and taken to Ducos prison. A judge from the bench is now overseeing the continuation of the investigation.
