Gendarmes from the Alès gendarmerie made a gruesome discovery Saturday evening in La Grand-Combe, in the Gard, according to franceinfo.
Around 22:30, law enforcement found the lifeless body of a two-year-old boy. The mother, a young woman in her twenties living alone following a separation, was arrested and placed in police custody. Her two other children, twins, were not present at the home at the time of the tragedy; they were with their father.
The magistrate of the Alès public prosecutor's office, Abdelkrim Grini, confirmed the opening of a judicial investigation for homicide of a person under 15 years old. The precise circumstances in which the death occurred have not been disclosed at this time.
