Appellate court judges rejected a request to reopen the investigation into the filmmaker, who had already been cleared by a previous dismissal.
Paris court upholds dismissal in Luc Besson rape case
Magistrates at the Paris appellate court rejected on Tuesday a request to restart investigations into allegations of sexual assault against filmmaker Luc Besson. Actress Sand Van Roy, who is accusing him, argued that genetic analysis results obtained from intimate clothing provided new evidence justifying a fresh investigation.
The judges did not endorse this argument. The filmmaker had already been cleared by a previous dismissal decision in this case. Antoine Gitton, lawyer for the accuser, informed the AFP that he would file an appeal with the Court of Cassation without delay. He condemned the decision as unjust.
On the other side, Thierry Marembert, representing Luc Besson, welcomed the verdict. He stressed that the courts had refused to reopen a case that had already been judged multiple times.
