Landes: two drug traffickers remanded in custody after record seizure
The officers of the Dax gendarmerie company carried out a significant operation in the department. Two suspects, aged thirty-eight and thirty-three respectively, were brought before the Dax criminal court on Monday 22 June. The judges granted them a period to prepare their defence. Their trial is scheduled for 3 August. In the meantime, they are serving pre-trial detention.
The operation began with the rapid examination of the pair, presented to the public prosecutor's office on Friday 19 June. One of them was picked up at his home in Bénesse-Maremne by officers from the Surveillance and Intervention Unit. He attempted to barricade himself inside. Law enforcement officers seized twelve kilograms of cannabis, six hundred and fifty grammes of cocaine, three and a half grammes of crack, as well as one thousand eight hundred and fifty euros in cash.
The following day, the second accomplice was apprehended at his home in Angresse. Investigators then seized ten thousand euros in cash.
The investigation gained momentum on 16 June, during a routine traffic stop near Capbreton port. A thirty-year-old female motorist who tested positive for cocaine, and her partner were placed in police custody. Analysis of their telephone data made it possible to trace the two suppliers. A search of the couple's home revealed cocaine pipes. The consumers were issued fixed-penalty fines.
