Fifteen defendants took their places on Monday 22 June 2026 in the courtroom of Marseille's judicial tribunal to answer for their involvement in a counterfeiting network linked to Marché du Soleil. This commercial zone, located in the southern districts of the city, is regularly described as a hub for the distribution of counterfeit merchandise.
The case broke in February last, when a coordinated operation resulted in the seizure of more than 200,000 counterfeit articles. These products, which imitated internationally renowned brands, were subsequently destroyed. Investigators estimate that this illicit trade generated substantial profits for the organisers of the network.
The fifteen defendants face charges relating to the trading of counterfeits, complicity and the organisation of a trafficking operation in counterfeit goods. The trial should shed light on the supply lines and distribution circuits used by this group.
This case illustrates the persistence of the counterfeiting phenomenon in certain commercial zones in Marseille, despite the numerous police operations carried out in recent years. Local authorities hope that this trial will send a strong signal to the networks that continue to exploit these markets.
