The judicial police in Rennes launched an appeal on Tuesday to find a woman who was on the banks of the Vilaine on 24 May, at the time when Théo, an 11-year-old child, was killed. The body of the young boy had been discovered that day around 5 p.m. in a wooded area at the river's edge, not far from the centre of the Breton city. A bath towel was tied around his neck.
The autopsy confirmed that death resulted from strangulation. Two teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, have been charged with "murder of a minor" and "theft with premeditation". They were remanded in custody. According to prosecutor Frédéric Teillet, the two minors admitted wanting to take revenge on the victim and seize his fishing equipment, worth a few dozen euros.
Investigators are now seeking to contact a potential witness. She is a woman wearing a green dress who was walking on the towpath, at the foot of the apartment buildings, and who did not come forward to the authorities. The national police of Ille-et-Vilaine circulated this appeal on their social media.
