Five minors have been placed under investigation in the inquiry into the death of Louis, a 17-year-old killed during an assault in Narbonne. Among them, two were arrested in Monestiés, a commune in the Tarn where one of them regularly stayed with his father.
This boy, who had previously lived in a care home in Narbonne, was already known in the Tarn village for minor disturbances and low-level vandalism. However, no residents would have suspected that he could be involved in such a serious crime.
The teenager's father, interviewed by La Dépêche du Midi, described his state as "devastated". He recounts having recently regained custody of his son and had hoped for a fresh start. The young man had a partner in Narbonne, wished to settle there and was looking for a job. He was due to reach adulthood in January. "Even though it has been complicated, he has always been loved. Now he has ruined everything… I cannot help but think of the victim's family," he told the newspaper.
According to his account, his son only said one thing to him after the events: "Dad, I've done something stupid, but I cannot say anything." The father also watched a recording of the assault to understand the accusations against his child. He claims to have heard his son say "stop, we are going to kill him," while admitting that his son would have participated in the beating.
The case is now being followed by the justice system, which will need to establish the exact responsibilities of each person involved.
