The prosecutor's magistrate in Metz, David Touvet, announced on Tuesday, 23 June the arrest of a 78-year-old man. He has admitted to murdering his wife, Hakima Boukerouis, whose body was discovered twenty years earlier in a metal container in Moselle. He has also confessed to killing their common child.
The victim had remained anonymous for two decades. She was known under the designation "woman with the Richmond dental crown". Thanks to advanced genetic analysis, investigators were able to trace her true identity. This breakthrough is part of a large-scale operation led by Interpol in collaboration with various countries on the European continent.
The "Identify Me" operation aims to give a name to approximately fifty women who died under unclear circumstances in recent decades. Hakima Boukerouis represents the fifth successful identification by this means, after other high-profile cases such as "the woman with the floral tattoo" or "the woman in the chicken coop". Nevertheless, this case constitutes the first time that a direct arrest has resulted from this international initiative.
A relative of the defendant, one of his nieces, has also been charged with participation in the homicide. She was released under surveillance, the octogenarian having implicated this relative in the facts, according to the details provided by the public prosecutor's representative.
