The Versailles Court of Appeal has upheld the referral of the PSG player to the assize court. The case dates back to February 2023, when a woman filed a complaint for sexual assault.
Rape trial confirmed against footballer Achraf Hakimi
The Versailles Court of Appeal upheld on 19 June the referral of the PSG defender to a criminal court. The 27-year-old sportsman, who also wears the captain's armband with the Morocco national team, faces accusations of sexual assault.
The facts date back more than three years. In early 2023, a woman went to a police station to report a rape committed by the player. Investigators opened proceedings on 27 February. A few days later, on 3 March, the suspect was placed under examination and subjected to judicial supervision.
The two parties expressed opposing positions. The complainant's lawyer, Me Rachel-Flore Pardo, described the decision as "relief" for her client after a lengthy legal battle. The footballer's counsel has consistently contested the facts, referring to an "attempted extortion".
On social media, Achraf Hakimi indicated that he was looking forward to the hearing so he could speak out. However, he played down the case by asserting that his status as a public figure would have triggered the proceedings.
The date of the hearing remains undetermined. The player, currently competing in the world tournament with his national team, continues his sporting activities despite the criminal proceedings.
