Reconstruction at Bois de Boulogne: six hours to retrace Philippine's murder

The main suspect in the murder of Philippine, 19, left Bois de Boulogne under escort on Monday 29 June, according to tf1info.fr. Transported in an unmarked armoured van from his cell, he had arrived early in the afternoon to the security perimeter, accompanied by his lawyers.

For more than six hours, concealed behind screens, the suspect re-enacted minute by minute the murder of the student, whose body had been found buried in the forest in 2024.

A decisive phase in the investigation

Éric Neveu, prosecutor and interregional delegate within the magistrates' union Unité magistrats, emphasises the importance of this phase in the inquiry. "We can notice inconsistencies, and at some point we might also discover that the accused will perhaps remember certain things. We dissect the entire crime scene, so it can last several hours and it can last all night until we arrive at the most plausible scenario of this crime," he states in the tf1info.fr report.

The autopsy had concluded that death was caused by asphyxiation. During his questioning, the suspect had chosen to remain silent.

A criminal record at the heart of the debate

Taha O., 22, of Moroccan nationality, is under investigation for murder and rape as a repeat offence. He had already been convicted and imprisoned for rape in 2021 and was subject to an order to leave French territory at the time of the events. This criminal record had provoked indignation among several political figures.

Philippine's family is still awaiting knowledge of the motive for the crime as well as a trial date.
